“attentional patience”—great phrase!

“dopamine responses are strongest when rewards are uncertain but possible.”

In my work, teaching Flyfishing to those seeking long-term recovery from substance use disorder, I work with folks, seeking healthier and more constructive means of finding those dopamine surges in life. Flyfishing is so healthy for people who struggle and perhaps for the community that I work with, your description of greater dopamine surges with possible, but not certain reward is a reason.

Anyways, thanks for getting me thinking and for a well written and very interesting article.
